Black locust end-grain jewelry dish - 5"

This jewelry dish was sculpted from a piece of black locust that had probably sat on the ground in our woods for a few decades before being cut.

Black locust is a particularly rot-resistant wood that was used by farmers for fenceposts before treated lumber became available. This one has been treated with Danish oil, which does not add any color but enhances the rich, natural tones in the wood and provides a long-lasting finish.
