Black locust sprig vase with large burl
This 7-inch-tall sprig vase is sculpted from a black locust log that had probably been sitting in our woods for a few decades. Black locust is particularly resistant to rot, and dead locust wood tends to darken as it ages on the forest floor.
Burl is wood tissue that has grown in an unusual manner due some form of stress to the tree.
This vase is designed to hold dry sprigs rather than cuttings that require water. It has been finished with tung oil.
