This spoon was sculpted from a sugar maple tree that we cut down last year. It was a huge old maple that grew in the middle of our driveway and had a good deal of sentimental value to the family, but it was growing too far over the house and had to be removed. It left behind some beautiful wood. The term "ambrosia" is used by woodworkers to refer to wood with these colors and patterns.
Although it would certainly be usable by anyone, this spoon is shaped to best fit the curve of a pan when held by a left-handed cook. It has been soaked in mineral oil and buffed with wax from our bees.
