This set of tongs is sculpted from a single piece of wood and operates with a pleasant simplicity. The utensil was sculpted from logs given to me by a friend in Crawfordsville who had to remove the tree due to a rotting trunk. It has been soaked in mineral oil and buffed with wax from our bees.
Sweet gum is a species of wood with a soft, velvety texture. The tongs have a slightly glossy finish that will eventually fade with use and be replaced with muted color variations. You may use mineral oil or other food-safe treatments periodically if you desire, but no treatment is necessary for the spoon to remain useful for many years.
