Sugar maple batter blade - 11"

This spoon was sculpted from a tree that fell in a friend’s pasture down the road from our home. This design is very broadly useful, working well for sautéing, mixing batter, and getting to the bottom of deep jars. The lighter wood is from the edge of the log, which stays lighter in black walnut trees.

The utensil has been soaked in food-safe mineral oil and buffed with wax from our bees. The glossy finish will eventually fade with use and be replaced with muted color variations and a fine, velvety patina. You may treat it periodically with mineral oil or another food-safe oil to sharpen colors if you desire.
